If you want to savour the dashi in the batter itself, start with the salt-seasoned takoyaki. Diners have commented on the pleasing crispness outside and soft, molten centre; some who tried the salt seasoning said they could appreciate the flavour of the batter and dashi. The menu also offers takoyaki in portions of 8 for 980 yen and 12 for 1,440 yen.
The classic sauce option starts at 8 pieces for 980 yen. Light soy sauce and ponzu are also available from 8 pieces for 980 yen, offering a lighter alternative. There is mentaiko mayonnaise, too, served with a little spring onion, at 8 pieces for 1,060 yen. Try the salt first, then change things up with sauce or mentaiko mayonnaise.
You can eat in or take your order away, and some diners have enjoyed their takoyaki with beer. On Abeno-suji, Kuukai is an option for a quick bite or a more leisurely stop to choose among the different flavours.
